Martha Stewart makes pupusas!

November 13th, 2010 at 02:58 am

someone shared this one on FB today, I couldnīt help myself and had to share with you!

For those of you who know pupusas, try not to faint at the fact that these are mozarella pupusas, you gotta work with what you have! LOL! (and, after all, I substitute mozarella with quesillo for my lasagnas!)

Looks delicious! Don't faint at this either, but I might try this using vegan "cheese." LOL

I used to go to a great place outside of New Orleans. I forget the name, maybe El pupuceria?

ceejay: there are a number of "traditional" fillings: cheese, beans, cheese-beans-pork (called revuelta), cheese and loroco (which is a very fragrante edible flower)... and now they have invented "gourmet" pupusas (faint)...Iīve seen tuna fish and shrimp pupusas... if THAT didnīt make me faint, I donīt think vegan "cheese" can do it! LOL!
Thrift-o-Rama: La Pupuseria... that would make a great name, as it would be something like THE Restaurant that sells pupusas, as opposed to Una pupuseria, or A restaurant that makes pupusas!
    Arenīt they yummy??

I had pupusas for the first time two years ago (cheese filled). They are so good. The Salvadoran Restaurant in town makes them also. By the way, my students are watching the movie on Oscar Romero as part of our literature studies on "El Heroismo" in Latin America. What a wonderful movie!

I use the recipe added a small amount of thinly sliced poblano as a substitute for loroco since this is my favorite pupusa filling. The Martha Stewart recipe was easy to follow. For the curtido I used a bag of the pre-shredded cabbage for coleslaw that has carrot and red cabbage, too. Yummy!
