2008 goals - how did I do?

December 12th, 2008 at 05:32 pm

1. Track spending -- terrible, as usual

2. Make at least $1,000 per month average from translations. Save at least 10% of that! -- well, managed to do the $1k/month, but all my savings are gone (car repairs)... oh, well, at least it's no new debt!

3. Take better care of myself...hmmm... so-so....

So, in conclusion... did not do that well in 2008, although there was progress, that's for sure!

Have to start thinking about 2009!

All we can ask of ourselves is for progress towards our goals - no need for perfection!

I read a lot of your old blogs and I think you are doing great!

Oh, definetely!... I'm not complaining! It's just that I made almost 2x the $$$ with translations this year, and you'd think I'd have much lower debt or higher savings... however, I KNOW where the money went (did not receive friend's help for Ale's school this year, plus the school is more expensive this year, taxes were much higher than I anticipated, went to Disney World, fixed the car... twice... paid health-related expenses, painted parts of the house, let Ale restart ballet classes...) so it's not bad...
I mean, if you read back to 2005, it's a COMPLETELY different financial picture!
I still have a splurge or two this year (I REALLY fell in love with a painting at the handicraft store... it's $90... not outrageous, but definetely not in the budget...still, I might/might get it!) ... and next year we're back on a tighter budget, like we did in 2007... Things should be easier, because, right now, we've had my nephew come live with us and he has been there almost 3 months now, and will have his first paycheck Dec 15, so... he hasn't been contributing $$$ to the house...lots to write about that, too...Once he's working we'll let him pay some of the utilities and ask him to pay for some of the extra food...

#1: LOL! I did really well tracking until my granddaughter was born and I spent 6 weeks in North Carolina with the accompanying outrageous spending. I am renewed to start over January 1st with tracking, no matter how many times I travel back to see her!
