Am I being snobbish??

October 6th, 2006 at 03:18 pm

Ale showed me an ad for an aquapark today...she showed it to me mainly because the entrance fees are: adults $4, children $2 and parking $1....so she thought this was very cheap (it is!) and we could go there...she also asked me if this is farther away or closer than the hotel we went to last time (all-inclusive resort for the weekend...didn't have to pay for my room because we had reserved it for a training attendee that cancelled at the last possible moment...we would have been charged for the room anyway, so we decided to use it!)...the aqua-park is closer...so, Ale wants to go and she already figured out it's a lot less money and a lot less fuel to get there...but I'm not sure I want to go ...mainly because it's so cheap, that "everyone" can go....am I being snobbish??

Maybe you just don't like to play in crowded places. I have a problem going to places during peak seasons cos there are so many people and I can't handle crowds. I have more fun when there are fewer people, so maybe you're thinking of a more expensive place having less people.

Maybe, but really only you would know that. From what your post says I would say yes, but from Jan's insight, maybe it is something else?

I went on-line (she also gave me their website, LOL!) ....the place looks nice, and, has even won international quality awards...I might just take her there on Nov 2nd, Day of the Dead...it's a holiday, but most people DO go to the cementaries to "visit" their family (we don't, we believe our dead are with us in spirit wherever we go, not hanging around near their burial places...)...so there probably won't be too many people on that day!

hmmmm....well, it is sad to say, but, unfortunately, basic things like not littering are NOT a universal thing here....the cheaper the place, the less likely it is that it will be clean...(if only because they would be less likely to have the staff to keep it clean...)...but, seeing that they have won awards for quality....

There might be a stereotype tendency toward cheaper things are made for poorer people and that poorer people are more messy. That is not the norms and really each one of us as an individual has a responsibility to pratice citizen role as our behavior of any ways always contribute/affect the public regardless of our money stats. Maybe give Ale a chance to see for herself since she was the one that put effort into finding something that was cheaper and figured out the distance would save for gas or not. You can not go and not know or can find out and make a reference if it’s a place to go or not go again.

Well, I got a lucky break, and someone here at the office has been there and says it's wonderful! so, I guess I WILL take Ale....

    Gruntina,
you're right, there is a stereotype...unfortunately, I've seen all kinds of garbage being thrown out of bus windows (our buses are NOT air-conditioned, so the windows are always open!....unless it rains!) as well as out of luxury cars.... so, the cleanliness of an establishment is generally more dependent on how often the staff cleans than on the people that use the facilities!....

Of course, one of the first things I had to teach Ale was: WE don't litter

oh! and here's the link to the place: www.termosdelrio.com
