My poor sis...but, then, I warned her!

April 26th, 2006 at 09:22 pm

a couple of years ago she had to sell her car, which she hadn't finished paying for. The guy that bought the car basically gave her a lump sum and then took over the payments...but, she never made sure he had changed the documents to his name...and then there were a couple of late payments and we found out because the bank called our house (after all, the loan was in HER name!)...the guy paid up and promised to straighten things out...again, I told her she should press on the name change on the loan papers...a few months later again she got phone calls from the bank...again she contacted him, again he paid and,AGAIN, I counseled she follow up...well, yesterday she couldn't access her salary (direct deposit, but account was showing $0 balance!)...she went to the bank to complain and they told her they had frozen her acct because there was 1 payment left on the car, but that was overdue by more than 90 days....totalling $100....she paid them just so they would unfreeze the account (yes, the loan is STILL in her name!)...she's now trying to contact the guy again!!...One part of me feels sorry for her...but another part of me wants to hit her!!

I feel your frustration and have to ask what is the matter with her that she would let this drag out this way??? She's the one that's getting boned, does she not see that?

Always take care of the paperwork. I sold an old clunker of mine and the fellow asked if I could leave the registration on it temporarily. When I finished laughing and collected myself I told him I would not do that for my own mother.

It is a good thing I did remove the registration. He never reregistered it. The car was picked up in New Jersey and put in the impound for unpaid tickets. I get a letter of course as the last registered owner from the impound guy threatening me. I call him up tell him I have a bill of sale and he can politely "go pound salt".

In business no kindness goes unpunished. More to the point fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. It could have gone a lot worse for your sister. I am sure her credit rating has taken a beating.

I hope things work out for her. I am sure she has learned a valuable lesson from all this.

Wow, I do feel bad for her but at least now the car is paid for. Hoepfully she has/will learn from this

She is lucky it was only $100....and here int he states- if he had had an accident with the car in her name, your sis would have had a much bigger problem on her hands.

I think $100 is a cheap lesson learned in this situation!

Wow, I guess some people don't learn their lesson the first time. How much did that situation drop her credit score??

twice we have sold vehicles and the new owners never changed the registration to their names.. they ran on their own plates.. it is very important to unregister a vehicle from your name.

I'm amazed she didn't take action after the first time. I really think it's apathy and that is scary stuff.

hmmm...I understand a bit, because she's had a lot of scarier bigger problems (my nephew's problems with drugs, her neurocysticercosis, etc.)...but then, I don't think it would have taken THAT long to fix (back then)...I guess she just thought that because the guy was a friend's brother in law, it was okay...::shakes head::
