Maybe sis is serious this time?

May 18th, 2009 at 09:44 pm

She's always complaining that she has no money, but I always see her spend the kind of small money that ends up amounting to A LOT!... About 2 weeks ago, she asked me for my chicken lasagna recipe...said she'd decided to start cooking lasagnas on the weeked to sell... she'd take orders THEN cook, so as not to end up with a perishable product that won't sell... Now, pasta is not her strenght... but, she is an amazing cook, so I know she'll be able to do this...
BUT, I need to TEACH her, because last time was a disaster... she made pasta the top layer in her lasagna, so it dried up in the oven... Also, she didn't have basil on hand, panicked when she coudln't find it (it WAS there!) and substituted for oregano... er... And, finding the sauce a bit "too bland" she decided to "fix it" with pepper... er...

So, no, it wasn't her best try...I'm supposed to help her make another try this weekend, and then the week after that she'll try to do it on her own again...

I also helped her price the lasagna...

Hopefully, this will help her increase her income a bit!

I'll let you know how it turns out!

that sounds like a great idea. maybe give her the recipe and tell her to follow it perfectly - otherwise it will end up like last time!

LOL! the problem is that I don't have a "real" recipe... in our house, recipes are like compasses, they just kind of point you in the right direction... I did write down what I do, but, she's not really that experienced with "white" sauces...(she does make a mean bolognese, though, but, for some reason, she wants to do the chicken in white sauce!)

It sounds like you cook the way I wish I could cook -- by feel. I hope to get there someday, but right now I am still much more comfortable following a recipe Smile Right now, when my mother-in-law gives me a recipe, I have to make her write it down even though she doesn't cook with recipes. It's pretty funny to watch her go through it in her head while she tries to remember what she does. Usually at the end she adds in all the other things I can add and change -- but all I really want is a list of steps to follow! Someday... Smile

LOL! Yes... did you see the movie Ratattouille? I can actually read a recipe and get a feeling in my mind of what it would taste like...

Have you ever seen the movie Like Water For Chocolate? It's slightly on the risque side (don't let Ale see it) but there are several generations of cooks who sound somewhat similar to your style. Big Grin

LOL! Yes, the picture is very, very close to the book... the book actually has the recipes!
