MY Christmas gift....

December 12th, 2009 at 05:08 am

Well...I really can´t think of anything I want/need...well, yeah, I need to finish fixing my teeth, but....

I´m thinking about getting myself a book. I really do believe one can´t have enough books... I truly am a voracious reader!!...

The advantage of the translations is that they also help curve the book cravings! LOL!...

The problem is, sometimes I find so many books that I want, I end up getting none...

There´s a new bookstore in town... I´ll have to go check it out!!

I love to read as well... just was thinking that I might like the Kindle, since it would lead to one source holding all of my school books >and< my fun reading. Also, I would have the insurance of cheaper books, which is a huge consideration. I heard that Amazon even gives away some free books each month... whatever you get, enjoy your holidays!

Getting a book is a great idea. I love books! We buy a lot of them at garage sales and DH and I read and read and read. I used to have an amazing collection of cookbooks. I read them like they're novels, page by page, every page! I've thought of getting a kindle but really can't justify the expense of it right now. Kinda like the iphone! Maybe someday. Smile

Do you have free or low fee public libraries? I was in ours the other day. Walking from one floor to the other, I just felt happy as a clam. So many books and other good things, even the magazine whose subscription I had let expire....Once, my friend gave me for Christmas a library book picked out just for me, as she'd done for all her friends. I liked that, but well, I guess it wouldn't work for everyone.

I love bookstores. Smile I could browse in them for hours and hours. Even better if I have a giftcard to actually be able to buy one...

OH, sadly, I feel the true mark of a poor country is that they have poor (or no) libraries. The other day there was an article in the newspaper about the state of ours... they mostly have textbooks,a prized collection of rare books languishes in storage, in danger of being destroyed by neglect (there´s no money to properly store/curate the books, so they are just piled in a room...so, so sad)... Taking the books out of the library is not allowed, and, so, some people actually CUT parts of the books or tear pages out!!! (I nearly cried reading this!)... so, the librarians also have to play watchdog to see that this does not happen.... AND, the library is only open from 9-12 and 2-4, Mon-Fri. Frown

I've made my mind to never pay full price for a book moving forward. Between the library and Half.com, I really don't see the need to. We're talking about 50%-100% Off! Can't beat that!...Unless of course it's "THE" book. Then I can understand. Smile
