bought a new remote control for the TV

October 11th, 2010 at 08:10 pm

It sounds silly, but, after 11 years, 10 of them without cable, and with local channels being 02, 04, 06, 08, 10, 12, 19, 21, 33 and 35...well, the "0" stopped working!!!! And while, yes, I can get up to change the channels, at some point during these 11 years, Ale punched in the Power button, so you can not turn the TV on manually.

The TV works fine, so I figured getting a new remote was far cheaper than buying a new TV... we tried one of those universal remotes, but, maybe the TV is too old or something, but that one didnīt work, so I looked up the original one on line and bought it yesterday...

Of course, this means I do have to start thinking about buying a new TV... so that I may save for it and pay for it in cash...

Ha ha... that's kinda funny! Smile We used to have a tv in the bedroom and we ended up freecycling it because the remote sensor in the tv went bad. The remote was fine, the tv just couldn't get a signal from it. When you want to lay in bed and watch tv, it's rather pointless with no remote. Lazy, I know - but I'm much happier with no tv in the bedroom. I spend a lot of time at the computer and the tv was just garbage playing in the background. No thank you.

I have been thinking that I may have to bite the bullet and buy a new remote too. I just changed the batteries and ours still isn't working well.

Hope your new one works well for you!

Good luck on the new remote. I would say it is worth the cost.

That happened to us, as well, when our TV got older... the universal remote wasn't able to work with it, and we ended up having the old remote held together with tape! Couldn't find an old one to buy, either, so that leads to the tape option (or, you know, getting up and using my hands...). Isn't it funny how VITAL a remote seems now, when we were kids you could only change channels manually and it was no big deal! Technological advances always have some insurance of seeming indispensable within no time, don't they?

we got the new remote! I feel so happy, it's ridiculous! But, now I feel soooo happy when I see the ads for new TV's (because I don't have to buy one! yay!)
