HELP!!!

May 22nd, 2009 at 07:11 pm

I'm thinking of buying stuff I KNOW I really won't use...

You know, things like... a sewing machine (no, I don't know how to sew...no, I don't think I'd learn if I bought one... yes, I've always wanted to learn BUT...even if I bought it ....I wouldn't have the time to learn to use it at the moment!!)

... there are also a couple other "useless" things in my mind...so...

HELP!!!

somebody talk me out of this!!!!

Think about how much you want that house and how much money you can put towards your house downpayment if you didn't waste your money on "useless" things.

Buy it and sell the sewing machine to me cheap! Real cheap like free! And please pay for the shipping as well. I will be so happy that I will actually thank you in my blog, and post pictures about all the ridiculous little things that I've always wanted to make with a good sewing machines and you will hate this because you're wondering why a perfectly good sewing machine is being wasted on a stupid guy with stupid little sewing projects like that when it could be used for something so much better in life that you'll wish you could travel back in time and tell yourself, "Self! Don't buy that dumb sewing machine! BA is just going to ruin it and you'll end up losing lots of money for nothing!"

But wait! Why... Look! It hasn't happened yet. It's the future voice of yourself telling you not to buy it. Wow, how did that happen? Big Grin

Seriously though, I could use a sewing machine.

Been there a few weeks ago - just wanted to buy, buy, buy - but big things like new carpeting and a new couch. The feeling passed and I'm still plodding along saving for the roof and property taxes, etc.

It will pass - just hold on tight to your money!

I am in that mood right now as well. Just want to buy buy buy and buy more. Money's burning in my pocket- as my mom used to tell me as a kid. You can get through it. I am having a weird "cravin" to go to the mall and buy a watch (yes, another one), but I have used my entire "fun" $$ until I get paid next Friday. I'm fighting the urge by staying in the house...You can do it my friend!

Oh, I get this mood sometimes too. Just fight it - you can do this!!

On a side note: I have THREE sewing machines and I don't even sew!!!! I had a perfectly working older used machine and then I got my grandfather's Singer. Stupid thing kept breaking and then he wanted it back. My mother (who couldn't afford it) bought me a $100 modern plastic machine to "replace" it. I've used it once or twice. I didn't even need it, but couldn't turn down the gift! There's also apparently an antique Necchi in the table I use as a nightstand in the 2nd bedroom. Guess it works - never tried it!

    Thanks, everyone!
    BA: you're too funny!

I thought about it in this terms: I would use it to make one (1) bag (I have the materials, I just don't have the time), which I could also sew by hand...I would probably use it to mend hems and other small stuff...since I live in ES, taking the clothes to a professional seamstress or tailor would cost about $3-$5 for small repairs....so, to make it worthwhile, I'd have to have at least 20 pieces of clothing that needed mending... (which I DON'T)...so... It's just NOT worth it!...

Remember a time when you bought something that you thought you were going to use a few weeks later, but hadn't. What happened to the item? Yep. It will happen again if you buy into the craving.

Definitely avoid walking/driving past the store that's selling it also...better part of valor.

Know anyone with a machine you could borrow?

every time I get an urge to buy one, I borrow and am reminded why I hate them...fight with threading, fight with how to get the whatever to fit on the machine to sew, try to guess which of 500 available stitches is the right one, get started, then have to undo it all so you can go look up how to fill a bobbin, then go back to sewing only to realize it would have been done by hand by now and about as straight....
