Neat contest! -- need help with ideas!

June 15th, 2006 at 03:47 pm

the ministry of economy of my country is having a contest for entrepreneurs!...basically, if you are salvadoran and have a small business or if you have a good idea, you can participate...I'm thinking of participating...they have 9 "grand prizes", which are $6,000 seed money and follow-up counseling for a year. Also, the ministry would be your co-signor so you could apply for credit from the local banks (which traditionally don't give credit for micro businesses)...the really cool thing is, even if you don't win, the different phases of the contest include:
1. they'll help you write your business plan
2. They'll give you special training in different areas of your choice (administration, taxes, human resource management, strategic planning, accounting, IT, for example)

so, even if you don't win, you get something very valuable out of it!

I want to do something with translations...at this stage, I have a vague idea of what and how I want to do it (that is ok, that's all I need)...but, I also need A NAME!!!....I've never thought about this...anybody have any ideas?? (good or bad, I'll take them all!...I can work with anything and see how I can adapt it or something!...obviously, I have to do something that will be good both in English and in Spanish!)

HELP!...I have a week to turn it in!

I hope you'll paste your question over in the discussion forums so that we can really discuss and throw you lots of ideas.

I am usually not good at any aspect of your question, however something just popped into my feeble mind that I thought I would pass onto you in case you could play with it and turn it into something useable. It is just a name idea that might work for a kind of translation service that would be on the internet, perhaps serve people doing cross-border business with other parts of the world.

I'm thinking something like "e-span-a-world." I'm too embarrassed to even explain that idea, for if it needs explanation in either language, then I then it is too lame and I've failed. It is supposed to be a play on words in both languages, though.

Hey, students coming here from other countries need to have their grade reports and school records translated by a disinterested third party. It cost my friend $40 for a document that even I could understand without knowing Spanish. If he'd gotten the translation before he'd arrived, he could have gotten a better deal yet contributed to someone in his own country. Maybe that kind of service could be part of your business. I think the translator has to also provide an "official" statement saying that they attest that their translation is true and unbiased.

Thanks! I'll post the question in the forums as you suggest....I like the e-span-a world (HIspana world) thing....

was thinking more along the lines of E-spiral or something like that myself!

There's a lot of market here...unbelievably, most websites (even the ones for the government trying to promote foreign investment/tourism) don't have English versions!
